Clearwater, FL, is known for its warm coastal breeze, but when temperatures spike, your home’s AC needs to work overtime. At Mason Air Conditioning, we ensure that homes in Harbor Oaks, Del Oro Groves, and Island Estates stay cool, comfortable, and running at peak efficiency no matter the season.
From battling humidity damage, salt air corrosion, or inconsistent cooling, our experienced HVAC team understands the challenges of maintaining AC units in Clearwater. Whether your system is struggling to keep up, making unusual noises, or failing to cool effectively, we provide solutions tailored to your home’s needs—delivering long-term performance, improved energy efficiency, and enhanced durability.
Why AC Systems in Clearwater, FL Need Special Care
With the Clearwater Harbor and Old Tampa Bay nearby, AC systems in Morningside-Meadows, Countryside, and Imperial Cove face unique challenges:
- Salt Air Corrosion – Coastal air near Court Street and Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard leads to faster wear on outdoor AC components. Regular maintenance helps prevent breakdowns.
- High Humidity & Mold Growth – Homes near Northwood Estates and Bayview often deal with excessive indoor moisture. A well-maintained AC with a dehumidifier keeps humidity in check.
- Frequent Storms & Power Surges – Lightning and power outages in Skycrest and Del Robles can damage HVAC electronics. Surge protectors and regular tune-ups reduce repair costs.
- Energy Efficiency Challenges – Homes in Feather Sound and Belleair with large windows and open layouts require high-efficiency cooling solutions to prevent skyrocketing energy bills.
Common AC Repairs in Clearwater, FL
AC units in Coachman Ridge, Harbor Woods, and The Lakes work hard under the Florida sun. Here’s what we frequently repair:
- Weak or Warm Airflow – If your AC isn’t blowing cold air, it could be a refrigerant issue, clogged filter, or duct problem—common in Sunset Point and Greenbriar.
- Frequent Cycling – If your AC turns on and off too often, it might be dirty coils, a faulty thermostat, or an oversized system, often seen in Bay Aristocrat Village and The Landings.
- Loud or Strange Noises – Banging, buzzing, or rattling sounds often mean worn-out compressors or loose parts, especially in Sand Key and Seville.
- Water Leaks – Drain line blockages or frozen evaporator coils lead to leaks, which can damage your home—common in Clearwater Beach and Mandalay Avenue.
- High Energy Bills – If your cooling costs are climbing, your AC may be overworking. Many homeowners in Grand Bellagio and Eagle Estates upgrade to energy-efficient models for lower bills.
Ensuring your comfort during scorching heatwaves is paramount. Rather than waiting for your air conditioner to fail when you need it most, seize control of the situation by upgrading during seasons of milder temperatures, like spring or fall. This proactive approach guarantees uninterrupted cooling when the mercury climbs, sparing you the discomfort of prolonged downtime.
However, if your AC unit is in urgent need of replacement, it's best to address it promptly rather than wait for the off-season.
In Clearwater, FL, it's recommended to have your AC unit serviced at least once a year. Due to the region's hot and humid climate, AC systems often work harder, leading to more wear and tear. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and energy efficiency. Additionally, servicing your AC unit helps prevent breakdowns during the peak cooling season. Scheduling an annual AC service in the spring before the summer heat sets in can help keep your system running smoothly and provide a comfortable indoor environment throughout the year.
One of the main reasons your home AC unit is leaking is a clogged condensate drain line. You'll notice unwanted water leakage if this is the case. This line gathers algae, dirt, dust, and debris, gradually obstructing its flow. Eventually, the line reaches its breaking point, backing up and causing the drain pan to overflow, resulting in water seeping into your home. Don't let a neglected drain line dampen your comfort by ensure regular maintenance to keep your AC running smoothly and your home dry.
We recommend scheduling annual AC maintenance, preferably before summer, to ensure efficiency and prevent breakdowns.
Common causes include low refrigerant, clogged air filters, faulty thermostats, or compressor issues. A professional diagnosis can pinpoint the exact problem.
Excess humidity forces your AC to work harder, leading to higher energy bills and increased wear and tear. Regular maintenance helps prevent issues.
Check your thermostat settings and circuit breaker. If the problem persists, call Mason Air Conditioning for a quick and professional repair.

Arrived to find indoor unit running but compressor non operational. Investigated system to find bad start cap and burnt compressor contactor. Made client aware and offered a start assist due to systems age and fact of system being extremely over heated. Cooled system down and installed new start cap contactor and start assist. Power system to find condenser motor starting very slow. Checked amp draws to find condenser motor over amping and only drawing higher amps the longer the system ran. Made client aware and he decided that if motor goes out in near future system Replacement was the better option at that point. Made client aware also I would credit back today’s repair if condenser motor was to go out within a reasonable amount of time so it was not money wasted. Today’s Task includes -Replacing bad start cap -Installation of start assist -Replacement of burnt compressor contactor

Joshua was amazing. First was the smile and then that amazing friendliness. I think people forget how important that is when getting service. He was helpful and empowered me with the solution to ensure I don’t keep having issues. I did not feel for one moment he was there to make up reasons to charge me. This company has been added to my contacts because they do so much more than HVAC. Service and integrity is something no one should have to pay for, but comes free with this company and the people they choose to hire. Thank you. I am beyond pleased.

Maintenance

no cooling, found system tripped on float switch due to clogged drain. Cleared and flushed drain. Poured water down drain to test. All operation is OK at this time.

Upon arrival, customer’s house was cold and cooling out of the vents. It was coming out 53 to 51 and some of the other rooms. The thermostat was reading 78° in the house and it was 76 when I put my temp gun next to the thermostat it was at 68° on the wall in the house. I showed both of the renters inside. They watched me check all temperatures. I let the Landlord know what was going on with the thermostat. She’s gonna have one of the renters change the thermostat out for her.

Maintenance
Execellent!

Diagnostic completed. On arrival activated system and found air handler running. Condenser inactive, contactor engaged and capacitor measuring within tolerance. No incoming high voltage. System equipped with start capacitor. Located breaker panel and reset tripped condenser breaker. Condenser reactivated normally. Air handler and condenser are mismatched and both machines are advancing in age. Air handler is dated 1999 while condenser was installed in 2014. Advised client that system is overwhelming it's circuit and age is the primary factor. Steps have been taken to reduce compressor power consumption but the breaker still trips during demanding load times. Recommended client replace system before complete failure to provide peace of mind and to reduce system power consumption. Client wishes to discuss with spouse before making decision. Recommended enrollment into maintenance plan to provide services and discounts on any necessary projects. Client accepted, balance collected v

While on site for neighbor was requested to provide estimate for ducting repair. Ducting was damaged by pests, client has removed damaged ducts. HVAC system currently not operational. Provided estimate for requested work. Client to contact us when ready to perform work.

Client reports water damage to ceiling. Inspected system and ducting, found significant damage to flex system. Air conditioner dates to 2004. Requested client inspect damage firsthand and recommended complete replacement of HVAC system. Client understands necessity of project but must consult pest control and other trades to ensure newly installed systems do not become similarly damaged. Awaiting further communication with client before proceeding with project.

Performed system maintenance. Found operating with slightly lower refrigerant charge. System was installed extremely close to the ground leaving no room for P-Trap on drain. This will cause unit to drain properly and to hold access water. Ground is solid rock and can't dig to make room for P-Trap. Suggest raising entire system with another hurricane pad and re do drain pipe. In order to perform this task would also have to replace duct shroud and re work duct connections.

Summertime HVAC System Maintenance: As part of a M.A.C.H. One maintenance visit, I conducted a full summer HVAC tune-up. This included cleaning condenser fins, tightening electrical terminals, checking ductwork for leaks, and calibrating the thermostat for summer efficiency. These preventive actions improve performance and lower energy costs during the hot months.

I really liked James Renfroe, he came out after hours to check on my AC because none else would. After coming out we decided I needed a nice AC and he held the price for me for a few days before I made my decision. He even worked with me on the price, all around great guy. The two men that came out did a fast, quick and quite job, I have no problems with them. Where it kind of fall apart is with the office, they never send me any of the paperwork for my unit that I need to file a rebate with my electric company. Even after calling them and asking for this information many times. If you are reading this please send me this information, I'll love to give you 5 stars.
Justin was great, extremely high quality work and he worked extremely hard and long hours to ensure my family has cool air at night during our installation
