Signs Your AC Needs Repair in Sarasota, FL
With high humidity, frequent storms, and salt air exposure, Sarasota homeowners often experience AC problems that require professional attention. If you notice any of the following issues, your air conditioning system may need repairs:
- Weak or Warm Airflow – If your AC is running but not cooling effectively, it could be due to refrigerant leaks, compressor malfunctions, or clogged air filters.
- Unusual Noises – Grinding, rattling, or hissing sounds often signal loose components, electrical issues, or worn-out motors.
- High Indoor Humidity – If your home feels damp despite the AC running, it may be struggling to dehumidify properly, leading to mold growth and musty odors.
- Frequent Cycling – If your system turns on and off frequently, it may be overworked due to a faulty thermostat, clogged air vents, or dirty coils.
- Rising Energy Bills – A sudden spike in electricity costs could indicate that your AC is losing efficiency due to aging parts or airflow restrictions.
Scheduling a professional repair early can prevent larger breakdowns, improve energy efficiency, and extend the life of your air conditioning system.
Common AC Problems in Sarasota, FL
Homes and businesses in Sarasota’s waterfront districts, suburban neighborhoods, and commercial centers often face unique air conditioning challenges. Here are some of the most frequent AC issues in the area:
- Salt Air Corrosion – Coastal homes near Siesta Key, Lido Beach, and Longboat Key experience faster wear and tear on metal AC components due to salt exposure.
- Clogged Air Filters – High pollen levels from Sarasota’s lush landscaping can clog filters faster, restricting airflow and reducing system efficiency.
- Refrigerant Leaks – If your AC struggles to cool properly or runs constantly, a refrigerant leak could be to blame. Many Sarasota homes still have older AC units that use outdated refrigerants, which may require upgrading.
- Duct Leaks and Airflow Problems – Many properties, especially in older neighborhoods like Arlington Park and Southgate, have aging ductwork that causes uneven cooling and higher energy bills.
- Storm-Related Electrical Damage – Sarasota’s frequent afternoon thunderstorms and lightning strikes can cause power surges that damage AC capacitors and wiring.
- Frozen Coils – Salt buildup and restricted airflow from dirty filters or refrigerant issues can lead to frozen evaporator coils, reducing system performance.
Regular AC maintenance and timely repairs help Sarasota homeowners and businesses prevent costly breakdowns, improve energy efficiency, and ensure long-term system reliability.

John was amazing he saved our Summer!!! He was on time and fixed the issue instantly!

Upon arrival found ac unit off triggered by float switch Recommend maintenance to prolong life every 6 months Cleared and treated drain line to get system operating, drain needs to be treated with solution on a regular basis

Have quote for new mini split

Install 3 ton h/p. System

Thermostat seemed to be working properly, upon removing air handler cabinets it was discovered that the entire coil was frozen. Filter was dirty and restrictive. Customer was advised to keep just the fan running until tomorrow in order for us to proceed with further diagnostics. Scheduled for tomorrow between 12 and 4.
John came and provided me with an estimate for replacing our ac system. He was polite, knowledgeable, trustworthy and professional. He was able to explain the system and how to get the most efficiency possible. Highly recommended.

Got to job couldn’t pump unit down fan motor bad sold unit

No cooling, did a complete evaluation of entire AC system. Found suction pressure at 0 psi and high side pressure at 215 psi. Removed sensing bulb on TXV and suction pressure went up to 15 psi. There is a restriction in evaporator coil/TXV. Also filter dryer is very rusty and has refrigerant oil residue on it, capacitor is weak, and compressor has high startup amps. Gave client solutions for issues with system, however, system is 8 years old and recommended replacing due to age and cost of repairs. Client chose to go with solution #1 for now. Signed client up for annual membership. Need to return to replace evaporator coil/TXV, filter, dryer, capacitor, and install hard start kit. Scheduled to return on Friday, March 28.

Arrived to find main system tripped on float switch due to clogged condensation line. Called Brittnay and made aware of issues. Homeowner is not available to talk and has to send payment link via email. While onsite performed first system maintenance on main home system and mini split for play room. Systems have not been serviced in over a year! Both blower wheels need to be pulled and chemically cleaned due to what appears to have been in regular filter changes. Pulling and cleaning of blower wheels assemblies are not part of the bi annual maintenance contract and is additional labor. Systems efficiency will only get worse if issues not resolved and can cause major cooling issues come summer time. Sent over estimates to have systems more detailed cleaning. Freon pressures and both drains are good. Cleaned coils and assured proper functions.

Client says that rodent got into duct system and is causing very strong odor in house . Did a complete thorough inspection of ductwork and package AC unit. Found tears in supply duct from package unit going into Chase behind wall. Inspected inside ductwork with camera and inside package unit and could not find any signs of Dead animals, however, did find a lot of signs of biological growth buildup and debris inside blower cavity and evaporator coil. Advised client that supply and return trunk lines need to be replaced, blower wheel needs to be pulled and cleaned, evaporator coil and drain pan need to be thoroughly cleaned, and ductwork needs to be cleaned and sanitized, however, system is nine years old and recommended replacing due to age and cost of repairs. Advised client that just replacing ductwork will not solve odor issue. A bare minimum of cleaning of system, duct cleaning and sanitizing, and replacing supply and return trunk lines would most likely take care of issue. Emailed

Brennan G Today I visited for the system making a noise. I preformed an Inspection and the system did not replicate the noise while onsite. We discussed replacing duct work and i emailed an estimate.

Brennan G Emailed estimate for duct cleaning f based on information provided.

Brennan G Today I visited for a second opinion. I confirmed the system is low on refrigerant and leaking at the evaporator coil. The system is not under parts warranty. I provided a repair and replacement estimate.

Returned and replaced coil temp sensor Ran system and monitored for 30 mins run time and assured proper functions. I could only get compressor to run for 7-10 mins before and when the compressor would stage up it would shut down. System is now cooling as designed . No charge as courtesy from previous repair due to chain line of events. Still recommend installing surge protectors on these systems in house due to these issues was caused more than likely from power interruptions!

Water source heat pump

Arrived to find only indoor unit running Found error codes E6,E7, and EA Reset power to find all working to best of abilities then after roughly 10 mins of runtime the compressor will shut itself down. Called tech support and checked all following out sensors and valve resistance. All checks good moved to indoor coil sensor to find faulty. Can not further diagnose. Due believe these past issues have to do with major power interruptions and system should have an inline surge protector. Can give quotes for but is after he’s right now and can not get availability on parts. Attempted to contact Emily but no answer. Left VM

Blower motor and fan replacement

Brennan G Today I visited to provide a system replacement estimate.

Brennan G Today I visited for the main system not cooling. I discovered the compressor fan capacitor had failed. We replaced the faulty component and the system is now operational and cooling. We recommend the equipment have a maintenance/ Inspection preformed. Per Chad I emailed the invoice for payment.

New club member! First tuneup completed! Schedule second in six months!

No cool on 12yo Daikin package unit! Condenser fan motor failure and bad run capacitors! Recommend replacement vs repair and customer needs to crunch numbers and think about direction to take! No weekend fee due to reschedule from Friday!

Upon arrival client stated system was not cooling Investigated system to find condenser fan motor not spinning due to old insulation from around fan shroud coming apart and had fan blades in a bind. Removed insulation and reapplied power to find all operational. Did notice an excessive amount of oil from condenser motor on fan blades indicating motor is soon to cease and create more issues. Also when system engaged the compressor contactor shot sparks out of it. The condenser coils are completely plugged and compressor is drawing RUN LOAD AMPS with all these issues myself and client determined the reasoning for high electric bills was the ac system. Recommended repair vs replacement options and awaiting to hear back from clients for either repairs to be made or replacement.
Took care of the problem.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a 5-star review!

Returned and removed Freon from system Replaced leaky suction line flare adapter with new Pressure tested system and pulled required vac Charged system to manufacturer specs System is now cooling and draining as designed
Great service.

Arrived to find system set to 75 but 81 in home System had no water in float switch today but was only producing 74 degree air throughout home. Was not raining as bad today on site so was able to check Freon pressures and found under charged. Found leak at 7/8 suction line flare fitting. Do not have a flare kit that goes to 7/8’s and need to get the 7/8’s fitting that comes shipped with carrier condenser and reinstall copper piping. I have charged system with Freon today and have cooled home to 77 before leaving and is still producing cold air. Attempted to contact Mr. Hartman but did not answer while on site.

Arrived to find system tripping off on float switch. Found system utilizing a MERV 11 return air filter which is too restrictive for systems return and causing a high ret7rn static pressure pulling air from drain line triggering float switch. Made client aware to only use a MERV 5 or 8 at most for sufficient air flow to system. Removed filter for now so system will stay running a a new filter can be installed ***I HAVE UPLOADED A PHOTO OF FILTERS I RECOMMEND***
