St. Petersburg, FL, is known for its vibrant coastal atmosphere, but keeping your home cool in the Florida heat requires an air conditioning system that performs at its best. Mason Air Conditioning provides reliable AC repair services for homeowners in Snell Isle, Jungle Prada, and Coquina Key, ensuring your home stays comfortable no matter the temperature outside. Learn more about residential cooling strategies from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Whether your AC is blowing warm air, running constantly, or making strange noises, our team of skilled technicians can diagnose and fix the issue efficiently. With humidity concerns, salt air corrosion, and Florida’s unpredictable weather, we specialize in AC solutions designed specifically for the St. Petersburg climate.
Why AC Systems in St. Petersburg, FL Need Special Attention
With the Tampa Bay and Boca Ciega Bay so close, homes in Historic Old Northeast, Pasadena, and Crescent Lake often deal with AC challenges unique to the area:
- Salt Air Exposure – Living near Central Avenue and 4th Street North means your AC unit is more susceptible to rust and corrosion. Regular inspections and protective coatings can help extend its lifespan.
- Intense Humidity & Moisture Buildup – Homes in Shore Acres and Venetian Isles are prone to excess indoor humidity, which can cause mold and mildew. AC maintenance, dehumidifiers, and clean ductwork can improve air quality.
- Storm Damage & Power Surges – Sudden power outages and surges from summer storms in Disston Heights and Euclid-St. Paul can damage AC components. Installing a surge protector can prevent costly repairs.
- Energy Drain from Large Homes & Open Floor Plans – Properties in Maximo Moorings and Bayway Isles often require high-efficiency AC systems to keep energy bills from soaring.
Most Common HVAC Services in St. Petersburg, FL
AC units in Historic Kenwood, Riviera Bay, and Shore Acres work hard throughout the year. These are some of the most frequent issues we repair:
- Insufficient Cooling – If your AC isn’t keeping up, clogged air filters, refrigerant leaks, or blocked ducts might be the cause. This is especially common in Causeway Isles and Lake Pasadena.
- Frequent On & Off Cycling – If your AC runs in short bursts, it could be due to dirty coils, a faulty thermostat, or improper unit size, often seen in Broadwater and Bay Pines.
- Strange Noises – Grinding, rattling, or buzzing sounds can mean loose components, fan issues, or compressor failure, which we often see in Isla Del Sol and Dolphin Cay.
- Leaking Water – A clogged condensate drain or frozen coils can cause leaks, leading to mold growth and water damage—common in St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island.
- Skyrocketing Energy Bills – A failing or outdated AC system may be overworking to cool your home, increasing your utility costs. Many homeowners in Lakewood Estates and Pink Streets opt for energy-efficient AC upgrades to lower expenses.

Corrected thermostat offset. Reiterated need to replace ducting and offered to insulate attic at no cost with project. Client declined to pursue at this time citing ongoing projects and limited budget.

Performed system maintenance. Found system operating with slightly low refrigerant charge. Didn't see any signs of a refrigerant leak at time of visit. Found bad capacitor for outdoor equipment. Testing well below recommended range. Suggest adjust the refrigerant charge by approximately 2 lbs of 410a. Home also has some damaged ductwork appears to have been from rodents which has since taken care of. Home has a total of 7 drops on supply side and one return. Return appears to be in good shape. Suggest replacing all supply end of duct system, replacement of capacitor and adjust the refrigerant charge

Need to return with blower motor and collect payment

Diagnostic completed. Found condensate line impacted and secondary pan filling with water. No flood protection or cleanout on primary pan or condensate line. Secondary pan switch not being tripped by water in pan. Discussed findings with client as well as system age. Client hesitant to invest in system as long term future in home uncertain. Created estimates to flush line and pan as well as option to enroll in maintenance program. Client chose to enroll in maintenance program with repair. Service completed and system reactivated with 23° temperature drop. Refrigerant levels low, advised client on recharge costs but recommended against repairs to system. Client to continue monitoring system and will report any concerns. Balance collected via cash and cc. No further action necessary at this time.

Diagnostic completed. On arrival activated system. Blower activated normally. Condensing unit active but sounds labored. Connected refrigerant manifold and found suction pressure -7.9psig, system refrigerant charge completely depleted. Created estimate for refrigerant leak search and advised client of findings. Discussed prior repairs as well as expected lifespan for equipment in Florida. At client request, drafted replacement estimates for a range of replacement options, discussing benefits and features of each system. Client is would like to proceed with Goodman replacement but, after discussing with family, would feel more comfortable receiving second quote. Provided contact information to answer any questions or concerns.
Great service, super fast and problem free

Diagnostic completed. On arrival tenant states system seems to be operational. Measured initial temperature delta at 8° but it began dropping. Approached AHU and found condensate pump running loudly with no condensate present in basin. Tapped pump which stopped operation. Inspected condenser and found fan motor running but compressor off. Removed service panel and found Core Sense module with solid red fault indicator. Measured compressor in excess of 140°f and in thermal lockout. Hermetic capacitor hot to touch and high voltage contactor chattering. As part of diagnostic procedure, removed insulative blanket from compressor and used water to cool compressor and remove lockout. On system reactivation found pressures at 133/273psig with 37° of superheat and negative subcooling. Highest recorded temperature delta on site was 10°f, well below expected 18-20°f. Called and advised client of findings. Client states third party told them system was working fine. Reiterated steps taken

Installed new UV light

Replaced Dual Run Capacitor as requested per client.

Returned to replace capacitor recommended on prior visit.

Customer would like us to get pricing for a blower motor and a train air handler unit. I need to call in the morning train and get availability and pricing.

Working on estimate with Joe

Upon arrival, customers machine was still blowing out 80° out of the vent section line was barely cold and was warm on the liquid. Found refrigerant leaking out of the liquid line in front of the air handler.

Customer wants to raise the condenser off the ground about 4 feet and mounted onto the wall with a steel bracket. They were also interested in getting their pool heater off the ground and mounted on the wall. Also, whenever both options with customers told me to call them back soon to get scheduled.

Client wanted a second opinion of work that was done by another company. Previous company replaced dual run capacitor, hard start kit, and 24 V contactor. Client wanted to know what we would charge for that and how much we would charge to replace system. Emailed client estimates. Client needs to discuss with her son about replacements and will call us back if she wants to move forward.

Gave client options to replace current AC system, all existing ductwork and grills, remove all existing insulation from attic, sanitize attic, and blow in R38 insulation. Client has somewhere he had to be and will look over all options. Setting up follow up phone call for tomorrow to go over options with client.

Found holes behind head unit and going into attic not sealed There is growth inside closet and made client aware we will have someone come out and killz closet and fix light fixture that we knocked out. Foamed holes for client Omar to come out tomorrow

Diagnostic completed. AHU dating to 1970s leaking water onto water heater and surrounding floor. Coil is dirty and corroded. Condensing unit dates 2005 and is in similarly poor condition. Advised client that repair path is long and expensive, system replacement is recommended for longevity and piece of mind. Discussed replacement and financing options. Client wishes to proceed with basic Goodman replacement under 12 month interest free option though was unable to enroll in program. Secondary lending option was not accepted by client who wishes to liquid assets and purchase system outright. Provided contact information to client for any questions or concerns.

Came out for estimate estimate on ductwork upon arrival. Customer had a bunch of squish ducks inside of the attic. Also, after looking under the return, the customers coil is completely caked up. There’s only about 20 to 30% airflow going through. It is a W coil customer has another AC guy that will clean the coil

Installer is coming back to install gaskets per james He need this up and running today

Came out because the machine was not cooling. We installed it about a year ago. Upon arrival found drain pan was not fully positioned under the air handler correctly along with both connections of the air handler are leaking air so it’s mixing cold and hot air and causing the machine to leak quite a bunch

Performed system maintenance. Found system operating just under recommended refrigerant charge. System is operating with a 6.7 subcool with a target of 10°. Suggest adjust the refrigerant charge by approximately 1 lb. Capacitor on compressor side is bad testing just below the recommended range. This can cause irreversible damage to the compressor and efficiency of the equipment. Suggest adjusting the refrigerant charge by 1 lb and replacing bad capacitor.

Excellent service!
Great same day service with wonderful tech who literally saved us from melting 🫠!
He claimed to have over 20 years experience and AC work but gave me a wrong diagnostic on my AC unit saying that it had a leak and I needed Freon and a leak detection oil which would have cost me over $700 !!! When in fact, it was never that !! he never checked the Duck work in the garage, which had came loose and needed to be replaced so that I wouldn’t be sucking in hot air from the garage once that was fixed. My house is ice cold. I always believe that if you are in business and can’t figure something out at least be honest.
Great Job!
Such a great service call today! James explained everything as he diagnosed my unit. I choose to buy the warranty to complete the necessary work. I appreciate you, James..TY😊
Easy follow up visit
Hunter made time to fit in my property when another team member couldn’t make it out. It was nice to get the follow up. Call letting me know the unit was doing very well.

Hunter was very polite and professional. Great technician to have with your company!
James was extremely professional he was quickly able to diagnose the problem and worked quickly to get it resolved.
Had issues with my AC auto shutting off and called Mason AC for some help. They were able to dispatch John first thing the next morning who immediately identified the problem, provided a quick solution, and a plan for a long term fix. Couldn’t be more pleased with the experience and would definitely recommend to others!
Markais was very nice knowledgeable and professional
Aaron and crew were efficient; he explained what was needed and we agreed with his suggestion. Disappointed in lack of communication with dispatching and customers. Scheduled earlier in the week & appointment was changed without a dispatcher notifying us.
I meant a delightful technician who works for Mason's air conditioning company here in Pinellas County, his name is Cruz, he had been out to my house prior for another issue, I have an older AC model but unfortunately I don't have the cash to buy a brand new one so therefore I guess I'm kind of like putting new shoes on a new vehicle one tire at a time, unfortunately you put one new equipment on the old AC then sometimes it doesn't recognize that you put a brand new part on so therefore another issue pops up. That was the case with me I have an older AC unit and unfortunately do the fact that I am lightly seasoned and live on social security to produce the money to buy a whole new unit was not even in my equation the finances. However, would that being said I needed a new blower up in my attic my problem is I care for a rescue cats I always ask any type of companies that have to come service the inside of my house are you allergic to cats? I was provided with one and he was severely allergic I said no I don't I was so awful and the other one would not be available for the next day that was not a problem that person was not allergic to cats and I was delighted, the technician that came to my front door was again Cruz, one of my cat said oh boy new person to come in and she like right there basically in his lap so that was a good thing. Cruise was there on a Saturday April 27th to replace the blower that had taken a permanent sabbatical it need to be replaced. Once again I have to ask who's coming and are they allergic to cats at the later end of the day I did receive notation that Cruz was going to come out on Saturday to install the new blower what I didn't realize was it was his day off I said no no I said I don't want him to take his day off as long as you find me somebody that's not allergic to cats that would be fine, Cruz wasn't having it he knows my system he is not allergic to cats the cats like him and he didn't have a problem coming in on his day off now that's dedication and I can certainly appreciate that. Unfortunately I had to have another tire put to my car which means I had to have a new blower installed in the Attic. He did an awesome job installing it and cleaned up after himself and once again I thanked him at the bottom of my heart for coming in on his day off he says no problem no problem at all I was honored to do it. The house is starting to cool off which I was excited I've not had the AC working and a month. You know it's hard to trust somebody else when you've been working with one particular technician doesn't mean that they're all not good and and otherwise they would not be working at Mason's Air Conditioning company but just like going to the doctors it's hard to have to change over to a new one because you so used to one person doing a certain way. I wanted Cruz to know thank you I appreciate all your hard work and all your knowledge and your TLC and making me feel like I'm part of the family and even a little bit of yours you're the best Thank you Mason air conditioning company for hiring him that was an excellent choice he's a great asset to the company he's a great asset to the customers and he's a great asset to the community thank you for all that you do.
Wow, wow, I come really close to losing my confidence sometimes just a little professional but caring person can make the difference between a unsuccessful experience to a successful experience, today I met a very nice gentleman who was the technician through Mason air condition company his name is James now by the time James got to me I had just kind of lost all hope not that I'm saying any other technician didn't do their job successfully with professionalism as well as caring, but I need a double reassuring after we found that with the problem was nobody says anything's cheapest day and age if you want something done correctly the first time. Once change was able to find the issue the addressed it with me and what it would take to hopefully successfully for long period of time but nobody knows when it comes to mechanical whether or not it's going to have a good day or bad year, with that being said I was told what needed to be addressed and I was quoted the price but that price could have been worse so that's something that was somewhat comforting, luckily my AC unit didn't have to take the full 5 gallons of freon and of course I'm sitting in my house going okay the gauge is not going lower but I have been looking at it for the past couple months they can will ever get cooler in here so now there's that little negative hanging over James's head going I better do this right the first time this lady's not going to be happy but it's not the fact that I'm unhappy is the fact that the unknown, Sometimes we customers we need that little extra TLC and his line of work he knows what he's talking about I know a little bit but not enough it's not my line of work I'm in the medical field if I were to talk to him about the things I did working in medical field he would probably go I'm not sure but if you say so I'll believe you so kind of like the same case scenario. Even though it only took a certain amount I'm still trying to not watch the temperature on the machine and it could feel the strength of the flow of coolness coming through but still even after closing all the windows I didn't think about it until James explain to me that my house is full of humidity got to get the humidity out first he explained before you can actually call up the rest of the house that makes perfect sense. He didn't hang outside in front of my house in his car and I kept running out a couple times going I would say this and I would say that and one particular time I said was not dropping any lower and then you know I probably know this but I need the reassurance that the computer in the temperature gauge on the wall still have to recognize that the temperature is getting lower but it's just not going to happen when you snap your fingers, and I and I'm sure I'm not doing one one snap your fingers and make it instantly cold. James was gentle very professional with a little TLC he brought back my confidence that I already knew it was there but when you're frustrated sometimes she just don't see things in a positive form I see things now in a positive form with the reinforcement of education that I received from James and my understanding how my unit and my temperature gauge works. James and Mason air conditioning company I've always felt very comfortable having them come to my house I kind of feel like they're my family and I'm sure they feel that when they go to other customers houses it is as if they're going to their own family member or their grandparents or their cousins however they know that they're going there because they understand the magnitude of the units they're not perfect but they understand enough what can and can at work you can only explain to somebody it's like leaving a horse to water will it drink hopefully it will same case scenario when it comes to technology. As of 20 minutes ago by not watching it the gauge is family catching up with what I am asking it to do I have not seen those numbers that low in a month. Thank you James for being who you are and thank you for adding that little extra TLC and your words and thank you Mason air conditioning for hiring James he is a great asset to the community and to your organization..
My service tech was very knowledgeable, on time and throughly explained how to repair the problem.
James was excellent and provided a comprehensive explanation of services to be provided.
Great service!
